Museum Workshop

Several of our families recently participated in a workshop morning at the Museum of Islamic Art. The students first worked on sketching some of famed pieces from the museum’s collection, then were guided through a tour with expert docent M.K. It was a great day and a great learning experience! Props to our Ms. Samah for arranging it!

Swim Days Are Here!

Nothing says “almost summer” like Homeschoolers’ Swim Days! Thanks to Ms Lisa and her gang for hosting this one. It was a hot – hot, hot, VERY HOT day! – but a good time was had by all who made it.

On 28 April, DHE brought in the spring with our Second Annual Eggstravaganza! Many thanks to Ms Lisa and family for hosting us! The fun-filled morning included eggsperiments of all kinds – drop tests, strength tests, how much salt was required for floating an egg, how to get an egg in a bottle, how to tell a raw egg from a cooked one, etc. A good time was had by all. And big congratulations to Rowan, our egg-drop champion, whose egg was the only one to survive two drops!

Several DHE families took advantage of a free admission day at the Museum of Islamic Art to check out the current special exhibit from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam of the works of the Dutch Masters.

DHE students enjoyed the exhibit!

A good time was had by all! Even if you didn’t get to join us, the exhibit is open until 6 June, 2011. It’s definitely worth the visit anytime, but it’s free on Mondays. Thank-you, Qatar Museum Authority for bringing this stunning exhibit.

Stepping Into the Past

The DHE got a chance to step out with archeologist Kathryn Pricee to discover what’s being dug up from the pre-history scene in Qatar. Kathryn and the team from the University of Birmingham are trying to uncover the ancient past of Qatar’s north. Our field trip to Zubara allowed us to be part of the process.

Mothers need their education, too! Thanks to one of our members, we got to have a soap making demonstration at our most recent Mums’ night. Chemistry, history, and cleanliness, all rolled into one. And good food and great company to boot!

Doha Home Educators has now finished our biggest and most involved co-operative learning session EVEH!!

A huge thanks to our members who took on the herculean tasks of coordinating, and another big thanks to all our teachers. Final thanks to everyone who pitched in for the closing party – what a blast! Another co-op is coming up – watch this space!
